State government’s efforts to go after tax cheats and scammers is paying off to the tune of millions.
The stepped-up efforts begun in 2015-16 to prevent the issuance of fraudulent and erroneous tax refunds, along with a renegotiated software contract to help flag potential fraudulent or erroneous tax returns, saved the state more than $29 million in the last fiscal year alone.
